Among Us examples from CAST

Intro:

One of the most valuable aspects of UX (user experience) design is being able to evaluate how easy an app is to use based on certain criteria. The app/game I will be evaluating is Among Us. The reason I’m interested in this app is because we have played this game together in class before, and the hype for it has been going down lately which is sad because this is a really fun game.

One way we evaluate a product, app, or service in UX is through something called Heuristics. There are 10 main heuristics, and I’ll be covering [list the heuristics you’ll be using].

Heuristic:

The [first] Heuristic I’ll be using is [System Status]. This heuristic has to do with [Loading, Buffering]. One example of this heuristic is [when your connection cuts out it tells you something has happened].

With [Among Us], They do a [fair] job of using this heuristic because [It allows the user to at least know why it is happening and not just them out of the game for no reason].

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The [second] Heuristic I’ll be using is [Real World / System]. This heuristic has to do with [Graph, chart]. One example of this heuristic is [on the home screen it gives a chart of completed tasks, kills as imposter, won and lost games, and the amount of time in game I think in total].

With [Among Us], They do a [fair] job of using this heuristic because [It allows the user to know what all they have done in the game and see how well they play].

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------The [third] Heuristic I’ll be using is [User Control]. This heuristic has to do with [Go Back Button]. One example of this heuristic is [say when you are doing a task, and you feel in danger you can exit, walk around then go back to doing task].

With [Among Us], They do a [good] job of using this heuristic because [It allows the user to complete task at another time].

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The [fourth] Heuristic I’ll be using is [Consistency]. This heuristic has to do with [Placement of buttons on phones]. One example of this heuristic is [when you are just playing any phone game they have the basic movement in the same area].

With [Among Us], They do a [good] job of using this heuristic because [It allows the user to not be so confused when trying out after play, say for example C.O.D Mobile].

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The [fifth] Heuristic I’ll be using is [Error Prevention]. This heuristic has to do with [Autocorrect]. One example of this heuristic is [when in emergency meetings people have to respond fast to defend themselves and the autocorrect helps].

With [Among Us], They do a [fair] job of using this heuristic because [It gives the user opportunity to defend or lie in a quick matter without having to worry about spelling].

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The [sixth] Heuristic I’ll be using is [Recognition, NOT Recall]. This heuristic has to do with [Present options (multiple choice)]. One example of this heuristic is [when playing an easy way to call someone out if by the different color of each character].

With [Among Us], They do a [fair] job of using this heuristic because [It allows the user to tell the difference between when someone does something as another person].

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The [seventh] Heuristic I’ll be using is [Flexibility]. This heuristic has to do with [Access code terminal for coders]. One example of this heuristic is [when playing with friends you can make your own game it has access code just like public games].

With [Among Us], They do a [fair] job of using this heuristic because [It allows the user to at least know why it is happening and not just them out of the game for no reason].

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The [eighth] Heuristic I’ll be using is [Minimalist Aesthetics]. This heuristic has to do with [Keep sentences short]. One example of this heuristic is [when your connection cuts out it tells you something has happened].

With [Among Us], They do a [fair] job of using this heuristic because [It allows the users to both join private or public games easily].

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The [ninth] Heuristic I’ll be using is [Make Errors Obvious]. This heuristic has to do with [Alert noise when making a mistake]. One example of this heuristic is [during a certain task you have to swipe your card and if it isn't done correctly it makes an error sound].

With [Among Us], They do a [good] job of using this heuristic because [It allows the users to get distracted from imposter].

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The [tenth] Heuristic I’ll be using is [Help & Documentation]. This heuristic has to do with [Offer steps & instructions]. One example of this heuristic is [when on home screen there is selection to select freeplay, which gives you examples on what to do and can do.].

With [Among Us], They do a [good] job of using this heuristic because [It allows the user to get familiar with the game and not just jump in with random people and confuse the whole time].

Closing:

Overall, I would give [this game] a [4 out of 5] score based on [based on how friendly and fun it is].
